Slackel live has been created using Slackware Live tool for Slackware/Slackware64/Slackware-ARM Linux.
This tool has been further developed to support keyboard and locale setup on the fly, to add boot menus and splash image, to support booting on 14 locales and timezones, to set root's password, create a new user with password and remove the liveuser, to set the keyboard and locale, set the hostname etc when installing on hard disk.

 Slackel Openbox 2.0

Slackel Openbox 2.0  has been released.

Slackel is based on Slackware and Salix. It uses the excellent Salix tools and Salix packages. Many thanks to Salix team members and packagers for this great work of developing.

A collection of two Openbox iso images are immediately available, including 32-bit and 64-bit installation images that can be burned to a CD.

Slackel Openbox 2.0 includes the current tree of Slackware and Openbox 3.5.0 accompanied by a very rich collection of software. Linux kernel is 3.7.10. The Midori 0.4.8 web browser, Claws-Mail 3.8.1 and Transmission are the main networking applications included in this release. SpaceFm is the file manager. It comes also with Openjre-7u9, rhino, icedtea-web, Pidgin and Gftp. Wicd is used for setting up your wired or wireless networking connections.

Abiword, Gnumeric
and ePDFviewer office applications are included. Whaawmp is the default movie player, Exaile 3.3.0 is the application to use for managing your music collection, Asunder Cd ripper, Bracero for writing CD/DVD's and more.

The Salix codecs installer application can be used, to quickly and easily install patent encumbered codecs to your system.

In the graphics section Viewnior 1.3 is the default image viewer, Gimp 2.8.4 for editing images and Scrot the snapshot utility.

On Slackel repositories can find also Openjdk-7u9, LibreOffice-4.0.1, Thunderbird 17.0.4, Firefox 19.0.2, inkscape, vlc-2.0.5Μumble, Μurmur, Postfix, Dovecot and much more.

More software choices are available in the form of SlackBuild scripts and users can have automated access to these SlackBuilds using either slapt-src from the command line or Sourcery graphical management tool.

On the 32-bit side of things, there are both SMP (multiple processor capable) and non-SMP (single processor) kernels. The non-SMP kernel is mostly intended for machines that can't run the SMP kernel, which is anything older than a Pentium III, and some models of the Pentium M that don't support PAE. On 32-bit, it is highly recommended to use the SMP kernel if your machine is able to boot with it (even if you have only a single core) because the optimization and memory handling options should yield better performance.

Slackel current KDE 4.8.1 includes the latest current tree of slackware and latest KDE 4.8.1 accompanied by a very rich collection of KDE centric software. The firefox 11.0 web browser, KMail and Ktorrent are the main networking applications included in this release, followed by Akregator, an RSS reader for KDE, Kopete, the KDE instant messenger and more. Wicd is used for setting up your wired or wireless networking connections.

In the multimedia section, Slackel current KDE 4.8.1 Bangarang 2.1,  a powerful media player for KDE is included, along with Clementine 1.0.1, which is probably the best music organizer for Linux, and of course K3b 2.0.2 , the best optical disc burning application for Linux systems. The Salix codecs installer application can be used, to quickly and easily install patent encumbered codecs to your system.

A wide variety of office applications are included thanks to Calligra, the new standard KDE office suite. Calligra Words, Calligra Stage, Calligra Tables are the main office applications present while there are many more included that will satisfy the needs for almost any task, like KOrganizer, KAddressBook and the Okular document viewer.
In the graphics section, Krita, a powerful image editor and Karbon, a scalable graphics editor are included, together with Gwenview, a feature-rich image viewer. Many more smaller tools like KColorChooser, a colour picker and KSnapshot, a screenshot capturing application supplement the graphics applications selection.

The graphical Salix system tools are present too, making administrative tasks easy for everyone. Package management, as always, is done using slapt-get and its graphical frontend Gslapt. Sourcery (from salix), a new graphical tool for managing and installing packages from SlackBuilds is included. This is a graphical frontend to slapt-src and complements gslapt, the default graphical package manager.

The Slackel live DVD images includes the LiveKernel 3.2.13 (32 and 64 bit) and built using SaLT (Salix Live Technology).

It is very easy to put Slackel Live in a usb thumbdrive. Scripts to do exactly that in any *nix or Windows system are available inside the iso files.

Slackel Live can also be booted through a network connection using PXE. You will find links for initrd files for PXE booting next to the iso images download links.
