After installation of this package, edit as root the file /etc/espeakup.conf to set the desired language, rate, volume and pitch. To start espeakup after booting, make executable /etc/rc.d/rc.espeakup. To do that type as root: chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/rc.espeakup You should then hear your system ask your login name at start up. To get started read SpeakupMainKeys in this directory. Using a numeric keypad is much easier. If your laptop doesn't have one, consider buying either an external complete keyboard, or just an external numeric keypad that will take less space on your desk. Be aware that espeakup works only on the console, not in a window manager or a desktop.
