Slackel KDE64 Install Question

Post by atipp »

I am trying to install Slackel-KD64 to my wife's Samsung computer which
has been running on Knoppix-7.6 sucessfully.

Installing when it comes to format and I OK on quick format it goes on and on.
I aborted and it said it formated reiserfs instead of ext4 which I asked.

It seems this computer is somewhat slow and therefore my question:

"How long does it possibly take to make a quick format."

I think the partition I try to install on has 40 Gig.

You use the installation iso, i think. Well because it has already knoppix installed format maybe take a lot or some problem occurs.
Try to format it before installing the system, before running the installer. e.g. boot with a live iso, format the drive in ext4. Then reboot so partition table will be refreshed for sure.
Then try the installation again. I always delete the partition in which i will install the slackel because if i do not, quick format will go for ever. I have to press enter to continue.
This happens with the original slackware installation iso also.
So delete the partition, create the partition again, format the partition. Reboot and proceed with installation.

Thanks! It is up and running.
Booted from live USB stick and installed from there using installer program.
Had some problem first to figure out the BIOS for booting from USB stick.
Made upgrade including to kernel 4.4.16.
Good woman likes it.

Only one sour note: ;)
I cannot add the cannon printer since the list of provided brands does not include canon printers.
Strange :?:.
It is in Slackel Openbox and Salix-14.2.

How will I get it?

First do you have cups up and running? sudo service start cups
what is the cannon model printer ?
for canon-3500 and Canon Pixia MG3540, see these

Yes cups is up and running. it is just that unlike in Slackel openbox or in Salix canon is not listed as printer.
Printer model is Pixma MP190 series.
Searched for driver for Linux unsuccessfully.

Will now copy /etc/cups and /usr/lib/cups from Openbox to KDE. May be that will work.

install gutenprint package. Pixma MP190 driver is included in gutenprint package.
I will add gutenprint package in kde FULL list packages on next slackel kde release.
