Alas, it was too early to celebrate. After the update, the SMPlayer plays youtube videos with the settings I wrote in my previous message, but with much worse performance. The same video which my old netbook's hardware played in 720p normally, with an average CPU load around 40%, now it needs over 85% cpu and the performance suffers from halts and gaps. Actually, no hardware acceleration via my old radeon driver takes place anymore.
I checked my hardware acceleration capabilities with vainfo and indeed, it supports acceleration only on H264 and VC1, but this same hardware performed much better before.
And the strangest of all, after the update I can no more open the volume control dialog. Clicking on the speaker and selecting "Volume Control..." from the pop up menu, has no effect.

Probably the following is related to the volume control error:
Code: Select all
damian[~]$ which pavucontrol
/usr/bin/pavucontrol
damian[~]$ pavucontrol
pavucontrol: error while loading shared libraries: libcolord.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I can't find libcolord. Where it should be located?

Thanks you. running depfinder -f pavucontrol-6.2-x86_64-1.txz, colord is not included as a dependency in pavucontrol.dep file. So i had to added by hand. Here it was working since i had installed it in the past.
But to check if it is downloaded as a dependency file
try this.
Code: Select all
sudo slapt-get -u
sudo slapt-get -i --reinstall pavucontrol
colord is a native slackware package.
Code: Select all
sudo slapt-get -i --reinstall colord
Smplayer plays youtube videos here without to change the settings you wrote.
I also removed the settings to be recreated rm -rf .config/smplayer and run smplayer
I click on url on menus and paste a youtube url video. It plays fine. My laptop is a

I confirm that the dependency is now updated.
Code: Select all
damian[~]$ sudo slapt-get -i --reinstall pavucontrol
Ανάγνωση Λίστας Πακέτων...Ολοκληρώθηκε
Τα παρακάτω ΝΕΑ πακέτα πρόκειται να εγκατασταθούν:
colord
Τα ακόλουθα πακέτα θα επανεγκατασταθούν:
pavucontrol
After the reinstallation, the volume control dialog shows up as expected.

By the way install minitube just to check if you like it and also its performance.
I updated it in latest version 4.0
pressing ALT key menus line shows up in minitube.
Running here vainfo returns error
Code: Select all
djemos[~]$ vainfo
Trying display: wayland
Trying display: x11
libva error: /usr/lib64/dri/i965_drv_video.so init failed
vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exi
So i installed these packages
Code: Select all
sudo slapt-get -i intel-gmmlib intel-media-driver
and vainfo is working now. No errors.
Code: Select all

Thanks. I'll try minitube. As for SMPlayer, that simple advice of yours, deleting my old .config/smplayer directory and let the application recreate it, restored the performance to the good old levels.
My poor netbook is much weaker than your notebook.

There is OS: Slackel Linux 6.1.38 x86_64 in neofetch output.
Type
to update the /etc/lsb-release with new kernel version.
Then neofetch will show OS: Slackel Linux 6.12.67 x86_64

Thanks, I hadn't noticed it. Updated. By the way, I installed also minitube 4.0. Looks nice, with its minimalistic user interface. I presume that it uses youtube api calls. I wonder whether it will encounter api key calls license limits, like the smtube. Performance-wise it is sluggish and picks erroneously the youtube streams. For example, with my test video, played the german audio stream and stuck the video stream. On a low powered device such as my netbook, I can see these small problems magnified. I'll keep using the SMPlayer with the youtube urls. Has better and more consistent performance.
