I noticed that pcmanfm (and thunar) need to be started as dbus-launch pcmanfm.
It has been my understanding that dbus was handled by the login manager, so I switched to lxdm (from SlackBuilds) and now both file managers display the trash in the sidebar, as well as continue to automount.
Is this a bug in gdm, or maybe the gdm configuration somewhere?
Perhaps make lxdm available in the gslapt repository - although it's an easy enough SlackBuild.

Trash is shown in the side bar in all editions of openbox. This is normal.
Go to Edit-> Preferences -> Layout and uncheck trash if you do not want to be displayed in the side bar.
Lxdm is for lxdm edition of slackel, if it was existed. This is openbox edition which i like and i created for slackel.
About fluxbox i have done the 1.0 fluxbox slackel and i realize that it is not a lot of different of openbox in terms of speed.
and openbox is better for new users of slackel. So i did not make another one.
