smplayer and mpv are both looking for libavutil.so.56 I have ffmpeg with libavutil.so.57 installed. I've tried slapt-get -i --reinstall smplayer and slapt-get -i --reinstall mpv to see if that would help, but doesn't :( How do I fix this? I have installed smplayer-22.7.0-x86_64-1dj and mpv-0.34.1-x8...

After an upgrade some time back (I don't remember when or which one, maybe pulseaudio upgrade), I had the same problem as in original post. I followed instructions that djemos posted and it solved problem again. Adding this post in case instructions are needed each time a particular (pulseaudio?) up...

I bet it doesn't just seem to work, it just works. Trust me, if it wasn't working you would know it immediately. True enough :) My mind was remembering times on systems I wrote that upgrade went fine, then later when trying to start different programs, they wouldn't start for one reason or another....
